Plot summary:
Adam Sandler invites you to share some holiday cheer in the new, no-holds-barred musical comedy Adam Sandler's 8 Crazy Nights. Davey Stone, a 33-year old party animal, finds himself in trouble with the law after his wild ways go too far. In keeping with the holiday spirit, the judge gives Davey one last chance at redemption-spend the holiday performing community service as the assistant referee for the youth basketball league or go to jail. Davey thinks he's gotten off easy until he meets Whitey Duvall, the eccentric, elf-like head referee. The mismatch between Whitey's good heart and never-ending optimism and Davey's constant troublemaking soon have them both wondering if going to jail wouldn't have been easier! Plot summary:
An expedition of archaeologists on Earth discover an Aztec temple hidden under the Antarctic circle, housing a host of Alien creatures. A group of five coming-of-age Predators have also come to the temple, as it has long been a training ground for their race. From there on, it's Aliens vs. Predators, with the humans caught in the middle.
Set in the early 21st century on Earth, Charles Weyland, an industrialist billionaire, leads an archaeological expedition in Antartica. Using thermal imaging satellites, Weyland believes to have discovered the ruins of an ancient pyramid temple that predates the Egyptian and Aztec pyramids buried under the ice. Once inside, the team finds the remains of humans with holes in the rib cage and the remains of facehuggers, meaning that the possibility of the temple being uninhabited is very unlikely. To make matters worse, five teenage Predators are coming to the temple to perform a coming-of-age ritual that involves fighting to the death with the aliens. Soon, it becomes clear that only one species is getting out alive.
Since the beginning of time, the Predators, the feared, hulking alien game hunters, have come to Earth for one simple reason: to engage in a coming of age ritual. To become "men," the teenage Predators have to hunt down a hive of Alien warriors and successfully defeat them and claim the skull as its trophy. However, during one hunting session, the easily aggravated Aliens fight back, leading to the destruction of the two species and the Aztec people who worshipped the Predators as Gods. Nearly two thousand years later, billionaire industrialist Charles Bishop Weyland (Lance Henriksen) rediscovers the pyramid, buried thousands of feet under the ice of Antarctica, with his satellites. Knowing that he has discovered something important, Weyland fixes up a team, led by Lex Woods (Sanaa Lathan), and heads down to the Antarctic to find the pyramid. But once they get there, the enslaved Queen Alien awakens from her sleep, which results in the production of new eggs and Facehuggers. And to make matters worse, the new hunting clan of teenage Predators, led by the brash and violent Celtic, have arrived, ready to hunt down both the Aliens and the humans within...

A Man Apart (2003) SVCD |
| This may have been done before, such as in Hard to Kill and Death Wish. Having said that this does succeed where those failed, or never treaded. A Man Apart has interesting characters an relationships. Instead of having the guys wife get killed and him simply looking stone faced, before scowling and swearing vengeance, they have a character here who is actually torn apart by the death of his wife, and we see his character deteriorating throughout the movie. There are themes of friendship and honour as well and the film has interest outside of the formula idea.
Vin Diesel does well here and its his best role with the possible exception of the delightfully dark and evil Riddick. This is certainly a far cry from XXX. His performance his good and will show critics who have only seen his two Rob Cohen collaborations that he can do more than look tough and wisecrack, in other words more than Arnie and co. Larenz Tate is good as his partner, who himself has some difficult decisions to make throughout the film.
Anyway this is gripping, the end needed work and weather they have sorted it or not it won`t be too much of a let down. I think this will do quite well and Diesel will get more respect. This is well worth a watch. I can`t wait to see the polished version.
